Cavan/Monaghan Schoolboys 1-4 Donegal Schoolboys
Donegal kicked off day two of the Ulster Connaught Group with a hard fought victory over hosts Cavan/Monaghan. Donegal started the brighter of the teams with Jack Murphy testing the Cavan/Monaghan keeper early on with a free kick. Donegal took advantage of their impressive start to grab the opening goal. Good work from Carlos O'Reilly in the midfield opened up an opportunity for forward Jason McDaid who slipped the ball under the Cavan/Monaghan keeper. Much of the early Donegal chances fell to midfielder Carlos O'Reilly who saw efforts hit the crossbar and be saved excellently by Cavan/Monaghan's goalkeeper. On the stroke of halftime Cavan/Monaghan levelled from a corner headed at the near post. Donegal restored their lead again 12 minutes into the second half, when a Carlos O'Reilly lobbed ball over the defence found the head of Conor Black to loop over the stranded keeper. Conor Black had a hand in the third Donegal goal 8 minute later, when he directed a Jack Murphy pass towards substitute Frankie Campbell who finished confidently. As the game drew towards the final whistle Cavan/Monaghan were reduced to 10 men after an altercation with the referee. Donegal had time to add a fourth goal in stoppage time when a corner was met by a glancing header from Donal McBride which nestled in the corner of the net.
