Donegal Schoolboys opened their series of matches with a convincing win over Sligo/Leitrim Schoolboys. Joel Bradley Walsh’s shot on 5 minutes set the tone of the game. Donegal continued to dominate in the opening period with a Sligo/Leitrim free kick that went wide the only time the opposition ventured into Donegal’s half. The first goal came on 13 minutes when a shot from Joel Bradley Walsh was saved but Mikee McFadden was first to pounce and chip the ball over the keeper and then round him before tapping the ball into an empty net. The second goal came just 4 minutes later with the move of the match. Joel Bradley Walsh picked the ball up from the Donegal defence, played a diagonal ball into left winger Connor Doherty, who took one touch then crossed to Mikee McFadden who volleyed into the roof of the net for his and Donegal’s second of the game. The Donegal defence had very little to do in the first half and the trio of Darragh Ellison, Connor O’Reilly and the very impresive Mark Walsh were in total control. Sligo/Leitrim only ventured into Donegal’s final third on the rare occasion with their only attempt a free kick that went harmlessly wide. On 34 and 45 minutes Gabriel Aduka and Jason Martin where introduced to the game. Just like the first half Donegal where totally dominant all over the field. P.J. McDaid and Ronan Gallagher playing well at full back and Dillon O’Brien and Liam McFadden solid in the heart of the defence. As a contest the game was over when Marc Walsh shot from the edge of the box but the keeper could only parry it out to his right and Walsh showed great speed and determination to pick up the rebound and finish into the top corner to make it 3-0 to Donegal. Two more substitutions followed in the form of Jordan Jervis and Odhran McGuinness. The game finished 3-0 but could easily have being 6-0 or 7-0 with Mikee McFadden, Joel Bradley Walsh, Liam McFadden putting in good performances and Marc Walsh getting man of the match.
