Eany Celtic 0-2 Kilmacrennan Celtic 2014-04-30 18:30:00

Under 12 Champions League Group Stage Game 2
Eany Celtic 0-2 Kilmacrennan Celtic

Kilmacrennan Celtic made it two wins from two in the Under 12 Champions League with a solid win over a determined Eany Celtic. Kilmacrennan Celtic fresh from their victory in the opening game of the group started much the brighter and came close to breaking the deadlock early on though Stephen Black's free kick from the left hand side drifted wide of the Eany Celtic goal. Eany Celtic had an opportunity of their own shortly after when space opened up for Nathan Maxwell to strike but his long range attempt flew harmlessly into the keepers hands. Jamie Grant had a glorious chance to open the scoring on 10 minutes. The Kilmacrennan forward avoided oncoming Eany challenges before releasing a lobbed shot which sailed over the bar. Kilmacrennan could sense a goal though Oisin McGarrigle, the Eany keeper, was standing firm denying the Letterkenny division champions twice in quick succession, firstly producing a wonderful acrobatic save when Aaron Reid burst through the Eany back four, before less than a minute later foiling Reid again. Kilmacrennan finally breached the Eany Celtic rearguard in the 22nd minute with a goal worth waiting for. Intricate one touch play from Aaron Reid an Conor Black around the edge of the Eany box allowed Reid though on goal and this time the midfielder made no mistake to calmly place the ball under the Oisin McGarrigle, to give them a half time lead. Less than a minute into the second half Kilmacrennan doubled their lead. As the ball broke to Conor Black's feet on the edge of the Eany area, the striker worked the ball into space before exquisitely curling a shot which Oisin McGarrigle could only get a faint hand to on its way into his goal. Oisin McGarrigle was called upon again five minutes later when his outstretched hand prevented Jamie Grant from getting on the end of Conor Black's cross. As Kyle Campbell swept up any chances that fell to Kilmacrennan in the second half it allowed Eany Celtic to build up attacks. Eany Celtic looked dangerous in the final 15 minutes with counter attacks from Nathan Maxwell and Michael Campbell causing problems for the Kilmacrennan defence before Reece Boyle's free kick tested the Kilmacrennan goalkeeper, Emmett Maguire. Kilmacrennan Celtic held on for an important victory which puts them into the last four of the competition and will play Glenea United in the final group game to decide who advances as group winners.
