This turned out to be a cracker of a game as both sides kicked off their champions league campaign. Drumkeen winners of their league and Swilly who finished 2nd in a tight Letterkenny section so this was always going to be a thriller. Swilly started the better and moved the ball swiftly and caused Drumkeen problems from the outset. Indeed Swillys good start was rewarded on 10 minutes when great work in midfield put their center forward Clive Callan through who slotted home to make it 0-1. This seemed to kick start drumkenn who immediately were inches away from equalizing when Jason McDaid shot narrowly wide. They didn't have to wait to long until they were level, a corner from Jason McDaid was converted by Gary McCafferty. On 20 minutes Drumkeen turned the game around when Sean Doherty made it 2-1 with a fantastic free kick from 25 yards to the top corner of the net. It was all Drumkeen at this stage and swilly found it hard to get to grips with Drumkeen charging forward at every opportunity. On 25 minutes great work from Aidan Martin released Jason McDaid who win the race with the Swilly keeper and slipped it into the net to make it 3-1. This is how the 1st half ended with Drumkeen deserving of their 1st half lead. The 2nd half began as the 1st half ended with Jason McDaid unlucky with 2 half sniffs at goal. Swilly began to get to grips with the game after this and slowly but surely tired Drumkeen with great spells of possessing football. With 6 minutes to go Swilly were awarded a free kick from a similar position were Doherty scored the free kick for Drumkeen in the 1st half. Dylan Dorrian stepped up and made no mistake by putting his shot into the top corner. It was most definitely backs against the wall then for the tired lads from Drumkeen as waves of attacks were thrown at them. Fair play to the Swilly lads who kept the pressure going and in injury time they were awarded with an equalizing goal when good work down the left and a low cross to the near post was finished to the roof of the net from Aaron Curran. Drumkeen then had a chance to win it deep into injury time when Sean Doherty had another free kick but on this occasion the Swilly keeper made a great save to deny him. That proved to be the last chance of the game. This was a great game of football from both teams and the large crowd didn't leave disappointed. Great performances from both teams.
