With the group potentially wide open Donegal/Killymard hosted Swilly Rovers at the Hospital Field with qualification hopes for both. The match was a tense affair with chances for both sides in the opening ten minutes but the technical skills of the Swilly Rovers players being matched by the defensive qualities of the Donegal side. However the class eventually showed with Jay Curran opening the scoring for Swilly. The game swung on an injury to Donegal’s flying defender Aiden Thomas and Dylan Dorrian took advantage by doubling the score just before half-time. Thomas came off at the break and Swilly poured on the pressure with Donegal’s goalkeeper Andrew Monaghan producing some fine saves to keep Donegal in the match. Jay Curran added his second to make it 3-0. Despite this the Donegal side kept battling and produced their best period of the match with Joe Leape testing the keeper on a number of occasions and a superb long range effort from Senan Quinn was tipped around the post by the Swilly net minder. However, Swilly kept their composure and hit Donegal on the break with Frankie Campbell adding to his season’s tally before Eoin Logue scored a fifth goal to seal the win. Swilly Rovers showed a real desire to play attractive football and deserved their comprehensive victory and will now meet Glenea United in the semi-finals.
