Carl is the most high profile player to progress from the current Donegal Schoolboys League Centre squads in recent years. Started out his schoolboy career with Gweebarra Rovers in the North West Division in 2002 before moving to Dungloe Town where he made a name for himself. A member of Eunan Brolly’s infamous 1993 squad who had numerous SFAI Inter League, Foyle Cup and Milk Cup successes between 2004 and 2009. Capped at all levels for the Republic of Ireland underage teams before signed for Reading in 2009. Had a loan spell with Dundalk in the Airtricity League before joining current club Bradford City in the English League Division 2 in 2011. Played in the Coca-Cola Cup Final defeat to Swansea City and the Division 2 promotion play-off both at Wembley in 2013. Joined Plymouth Argyle in the summer of 2015 and after 2 seasons joined Motherwell in the Scottish Premier Division in 2016. Received a nasty head injury on his League debut and is expected to be sidelined until the new year.
