Liam played all his schoolboy football with his local club Donegal Town in the South Division of Donegal Schoolboys League and quickly got selected for Willie Mackey's 1994 League Centre squad. Impressive performances saw him being capped at U-15 and U-16 for the Republic of Ireland underage teams. Joined Sligo Rovers in 2011 as part of a scholarship programme with Sligo IT and made his SSE Airtricity League debut later that year. Went out on loan to Ballinamallard United in 2012 where he scored a memorable goal at Winsdor Park as the Fermanagh side beat Linfield in their first season in the Irish League Premier Division. Returned to the Showgrounds in 2013 where he made a substitiute apperance in the Champions League against Molde and also picked up an FAI Cup Winners medal when the Bit o' Red beat Drogheda United 3-2 at the Avivia Stadium. Signed permanently for Ballinamallard in January 2014 where he scored 14 goals in 82 games before rejoining Sligo Rovers again at the start of the current season.
