B.J. began his schoolboy football with Letterkenny Swifts in the Letterkenny & District League before joining arch rivals Letterkenny Rovers. Drafted into the Donegal Schoolboys 1998 League Centre squad by Eunan Brolly and played in the 2012 Kennedy Cup. Progressed to the Letterkenny Rovers youth team before making the move to the Airtricity U-19 League with Finn Harps in the summer of 2015. Made his senior debut in October but shot to instant fame by scoring the winning goal for Harps in the Promotion/Relegation 2nd Leg game against Limerick at Finn Park which resulted in the Finnsiders returning to the Premier Division after a 7 year absence. Concentrated on his Leaving Cartificate in the first half of thid season but returned to make a handful of appearance towards the end of the campaign.
