Copany Rovers 2; St. Catherine's 5 2015-08-29 00:00:00

The new season kicked off in perfect conditions at Killowen Park on Saturday morning as the home side entertained the defending champions in the U-16 League opener. The visitors took control early on and took a deserved lead after 9 minutes when Lanty Molloy’s long range effort from the edge of the box gave the Copany keeper no chance. Defender Oran McGuinness doubled their tally 5 minutes later when he headed home from a corner. Copany showed great spirit throughout and Vincent Breslin found himself in a good position on the half hour but shot straight at the St. Catherine’s keeper. St. Catherine’s then added another goal before half-time when Lanty Molloy got his second when he stoked home from 10 yards. Copany started the second half a little brighter and got a goal back through James Kerrigan following a through ball from Eoin Rush. St. Catherine’s responded quickly with two further goals from Molloy and McGuinness just to make the tie safe. With 5 minutes remaining Copany scored the goal of the game when James Kerrigan found Vincent Breslin who scored a rocket off the crossbar. Best for Copany was Ryan Brogan and a team effort by St. Catherine's. Referee: Michael Farren.
